Chart a course for remote isle

For adventure | Easter Island

December 12, 2007

Want to really get away from it all? Take a trip to Easter Island, the most remote inhabited island on the planet.

Lodging options on this mysterious patch of land in the Pacific have been limited at best. That's going to change as of Saturday, when Posada de Mike Rapu opens its doors. This 30-room property is the latest addition to the portfolio of the South American travel company Explora. The secluded lodge looks out on the Pacific as well as the Rano Raraku volcano, where Easter Island's famous moai statues were born.

Stays at Posada de Mike Rapu will include all food and drinks, hikes and transfers to and from the island's airport. Rates for a three-night stay start at $1,794 per person (double occupancy) for a standard room. The four suites start at $2,334 per person. Call (866) 750-6699 or visit Explora.com.
