Make a play in Zion, Ill.
If your passion play budget doesn’t include a trip to Oberammergau next year, head to north suburban Zion instead.
Started in 1935 as a simple Easter pageant, the Zion Passion Play has evolved into a local tradition that will enter its 71st season with next year’s performance.
The 2½-hour play takes place in the Christian Arts Auditorium at Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Dr., Zion.
Exact dates for next year’s performance haven’t been set yet. Church officials say the play will run for two or three weekends around Easter.
Tickets will go on sale mid-January and will be available by calling the church at (847) 746-1411.
Zion’s passion play typically had been held annually, but there was no performance this year. Future plays will be held in even-numbered years.
