Zip it in the Wisconsin Dells

September 2, 2009

The water park capital of the world has a new attraction — and it doesn’t involve getting wet.

Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort in the Wisconsin Dells is offering the state’s first treetop zip lining adventure.

Thrill seekers plunge from a series of five 60-foot-tall towers above the Dells’ Lost Canyon, traveling nearly 2,500 feet, or the length of about eight football fields. In some spots, zip liners are suspended 115 feet above ground.

“It could be a really great way to enjoy the fall colors,” said resort spokeswoman Heidi Fendos, who added that the zip lining will run “as long as weather permits.”

Daily zip line tours take about two hours and are limited to 10 resort guests. (Zip lining is available only to people staying at the Wilderness resort, but Fendos said the company might open it up to everyone next year.) To participate, you must weigh between 70 and 240 pounds. The zip line tour costs $45.
