Iron Horse Hotel caters to bikers

June 29, 2008

With Milwaukee only about 90 miles from Chicago, the new Harley-Davidson Museum makes for an easy day trip for motorcycle enthusiasts. But starting in September, bikers looking for a place to stay overnight will find accommodations with motorcyclists in mind: the Iron Horse Hotel.

Built in a former 100-year-old warehouse, the Iron Horse Hotel isn't just for bikers but will offer covered motorcycle parking, an on-site bike wash and maintenance kits with standard motorcycle tools.

Inside, the furniture will be leather -- durable enough to withstand the zippers and buckles typical of motorcycle gear, the hotel notes. Fabric patterns are inspired by tattoo art. The 100 rooms feature custom hooks able to handle heavy leathers and shelves for storing helmets and boots.

At 500 W. Florida, the upscale "boutique" lodging, at 500 W. Florida St., is a few blocks from the new museum. Nightly rates run $179 to $399.

For reservations, call (888) 543-4766 or check out www.theironhorsehotel.com.
