Working vacation
PORTUGAL | Sun-Times cartoonist captures his trip the best way he knows how -- on his sketch pad
Vacations can be the perfect time to practice anything from cooking or speaking a foreign language to unleashing your inner artist.
Chicago Sun-Times cartoonist Cliff Wirth broke out his sketch pad on a recent 10-day painting tour of Portugal's Sun Coast. He joined amateur and professional artists as they captured the country's castles, forts, coastlines -- and in Wirth's case, characters -- in oils, watercolors, acrylics and pastels.
The tour was coordinated by American artist Charles Gruppe, who is running a similar trip in Spain on April 13-25 ($1,585 including airfare, lodging and most meals) and another on Italy's Amalfi Coast, Nov. 1-10 ($1,835). For more information, call Gruppe at (772) 569-0844.
