Kayakers, prepare your paddles
FOR ADVENTURE | GAVDOS, GREECE
In this global village of ours, it's getting more difficult to find those unspoiled, virtually unheard of vacation destinations. Adventure travel company Northwest Passage has done a good job digging one up with its new inn-to-inn sea kayaking trip in Gavdos, Greece.
The southernmost tip of Europe, Gavdos is a sparsely populated isle 25 miles off the southern coast of Crete, where Northwest Passage has been running paddling trips for years.
The new seven-night Gavdos journey calls for kayaking and hiking, while bedding down at small, family-owned inns. If the weather cooperates and the group is capable of it, the plan is to circumnavigate the island and make an open-sea crossing to explore Gavdos' smaller neighbor, Gavdopoula. Don't worry if you're not an expert paddler; the trip's skill rating is A-1 for "easy."
Northwest Passage is rolling out its new trip at a special inaugural price of $1,995 per person. Two trips are scheduled for next year from June 6-13 and Sept. 20-27, but organizers say these dates may shift by a day or two depending on ferry schedules. (800) 732-7328 or Nwpassage.com.
