Tour Down Under gets cranking this month
Wine country often doubles as great cycling country, and that mantra holds true in the Barossa.
Lance Armstrong and the rest of the peloton is scheduled to spin through this part of South Australia on Jan. 23 during a stage of the Tour Down Under, Jan. 18-25.
This year's race marks the first time Armstrong has competed in the Adelaide area competition.
Tour Down Under cyclists will thunder down the majestic Avenue of the Palms, a street flanked by 2,000 towering palm trees planted as a make-work program during the Depression. The picturesque boulevard runs along the Seppeltsfield winery and near the Louise hotel, where guests can hop on the complimentary bikes and go for a ride of their own.
