GO GURNEE: Really pushed it to the last minute? Gurnee Mills, 6170 W. Grand in Gurnee, will offer big sales Dec. 31, including a buy-one-get-one-free event for sale items at Forever 21, and 50 to 60 percent off coats and accessories, as well as 40 percent off boots, evening dresses and shoes at Neiman Marcus.

For many, the last few weeks have been spent chasing down toys for the tots in our lives or racing down interstates to visit family and expand our waistlines with Santa-shaped sugar cookies.

But there’s good news. Many local boutiques and department stores are saving us with big discounts this week, with an emphasis on — what else? — party dresses. Here’s a list of the best sales for last-minute New Year’s Eve shopping:

House of Sole, 1237 S. Michigan: Have the perfect dress but not the perfect pair of heels? Owner Tiffany Bullock has marked offerings down by as much as 50 percent.
DOWNTOWN/GOLD COAST
Veruca Salt, 520 N. Kingsbury: Select men’s and women’s clothing at this lovely River North boutique will be marked down to 70 percent off through January.
Nordstrom, all locations and Nordstrom.com: This popular half-yearly Sale for Men (until Jan. 6) includes steep discounts on brands such as Cole Haan, Diesel, Lacoste, Converse, Nike, Salvatore Ferragamo and 7 for All Mankind.
Sarca, 710 N. Wabash: Save 30 percent on select apparel, shoes and accessories through January. Expect to see: Boyo sequined dresses, Tania Spinelli glitter pumps, Lena Erziak cross body tassel bags and Mawi statement necklaces.
Water Tower Place, 835 N. Michigan: At Betsey Johnson, get 50 percent off all apparel, 30 percent off all jewelry and 50 percent off all sales apparel and coats. At Bebe, score an additional 30 to 50 percent off sale items.
Crosell & Co., 900 N. Michigan, Level 5: For last-minute entertaining needs, you’ll save 40 to 50 percent on all holiday items, as well as dinnerware and other select home furnishing from MacKenzie-Childs, Juliska and Mariposa.
Oak Street Let it Snow event: High-end Oak Street boutiques band together to make shopping a little easier on our checking accounts. Discounts include: 40 to 60 percent off at men’s and women’s boutique Vince, 106 E. Oak; 60 percent off select designer clothing, shoes and accessories at Barneys New York, 15 E.
