Stylist Suzanne Kopulos glides across the floor of River North boutique Veruca Salt with grace, sifting through blouses and dresses and searching for the perfect “date look” for her client.
And who is this client exactly? Well, it’s you, actually.
The 33-year-old Bridgeport resident and Flossmoor native is out to help style women across the Chicago area with Garmental.com, a site that, among many things, offers a “Look of the Day” from a different Chicago area boutique.
This little feature is perfect for shoppers like myself who can pick out great pieces but may not know what do with them once they’re yours. With a quick glance at the Garmental home page, you already have a complete outfit waiting for you — you just have to pick it up.
“People buy bits and pieces because they say ‘I love that’ but then they find that nothing connects,” says Kopulos.
Garmental.com also offers a map of the best Chicago boutiques and will keep to you up-to-date on the season’s trends.
In addition to running the website, Kopulos, who has a law degree but left the legal life for fashion, also is a celebrity stylist.
One of her more high-profile gigs included styling Beyonce and dancers for Oprah’s final show at the United Center, where she found herself backstage standing right next to none other than Tom Cruise.
“I kept trying to see if I was taller than him, but I was wearing heels so I couldn’t tell.”
JUST FOR YOU
Suzanne Kopulos features a look from an independent shop each day on her site Garmental.com. She met us at Veruca Salt (520 N. Kingsbury) to create two looks exclusively for Sun-Times readers, using the same criteria (see photo gallery for the looks):
For the Girl on a Date
1. Necklace, $60
2. Jacquard Woven Mini from Luca Couture, $88
3. Ronnie Blouse from Boulee, $184
4.Bling Card Case, $32
Style: Sophisticated with an edge
Why we love: This metallic skirt could be dressed up or down. For a more casual look, try this skirt with a plain white T-shirt under a black leather bomber jacket and polished off with boots.
For the Old Town Homme
1. Hooded Zip Sweater by Scotch & Soda, $198
2.. Spitfire sunglasses, $40
3. Pocket V-Neck T-shirt by No Excess, $36
4. Travis Straight Leg by James Jeans, $194
Style: Sporty/casual
Why we love: This is perfect to go watch football with your friends, but it’s pulled together enough to meet a girl while you’re there.
