Chicago faithful feel blessed to see pope
AT MASS | 'Just to be near the pope is a thrill'
Among the faithful who filled Washington's Nationals Park to see Pope Benedict say mass Thursday was Anita Dwyer, 53, of Oak Park, attending with her husband, Tom. They're members of St. Edmund Parish in the west suburb.
"We've been looking forward to being here for a long time," she said. "Just to be near the pope is a thrill.
"Years ago, I went to Grant Park, and I saw the last pope," she said. "But I was much younger, and people were lifting me up to see him. This is far more exciting to be so close."
Another Chicagoan who traveled to Washington to see the pope was Jon Kabance, 32.
"I'm blessed with the opportunity to be here," Kabance said. "It means that I need to take this experience and the overall teachings of the faith back and share them with friends and family and the people I come in contact with on a daily basis at home."
