Pope Benedict named two auxiliary bishops to assist Cardinal Francis George in outreach efforts among Polish and Hispanic Catholics, the Archdiocese of Chicago announced Monday.
“The Holy Father’s pastoral concern for the priests, deacons, religious men and women and lay ministers and all the faithful of the Archdiocese of Chicago is clearly evident in these appointments,” George said in a written statement.
Rev. Andrew P. Wypych, 55, pastor at St. Francis Borgia Parish in Chicago, will serve as George’s liaison to Polish Catholics. The Rev. Alberto Rojas, 46, pastor of Good Shepherd Parish, will serve as George’s liaison to Hispanic Catholics.
