Nature novices get a helping hand with Michigan’s “First Time Campers” program offered at 18 state parks. For just $20, you’ll get two nights of camping, use of a four-person tent and other necessities, as well as hands-on instruction from veteran campers. You bring the food, cooking utensils, bedding and a recreation passport, which can be bought at any state park for $10. Contact Maia Stephens at (989) 225-8573 or e-mail her at stephensm3@michigan.gov.
