Milwaukee’s other ethnic fests

Updated: July 21, 2011 2:17AM

Milwaukee is focusing on China this summer, but the “City of Festivals” is an equal opportunity enjoyer when it comes to international celebrations.

Afraid you’re too late this year for the country’s largest Polish festival, which took place last month.

And the city’s annual Arab World Fest is on hiatus because the event, typically held in August, conflicts with the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

But Milwaukee still has plenty of ethnic fests on the horizon, including Festa Italiana, which starts today:

Festa Italiana

July 21-24

Sicilian brass marching band, religious procession following Sunday mass and nightly fireworks;

German Fest

July 28-31

Brats, beer, music and a Markplatz stocked with German gifts;

Irish Fest

Aug. 18-21

More than a dozen stages featuring Irish music and dance, coupled with a wide range of cultural activities;

Mexican Fiesta

Aug. 26-28

Mariachi bands, traditional dancers and artisans from all over Mexico — and Ecuador;

Indian Summer Festival

Sept. 9-11

Native American storytellers, crafts, dance troupes and pow wow;
