Wadmalaw Island near Kiawah is an interesting place to spend an afternoon, particularly for tea drinkers.
It’s home to the 127-acre Charleston Tea Plantation, where you can take a trolley ride through the tea fields and tag along on a free factory tour that explains how the beverage is made.
Then head over to Firefly Distillery, makers of sweet tea vodka. For $6 Wednesday-Saturday, you can taste a half dozen of Firefly’s specialty vodkas and rums. They’ll even throw in a cool souvenir shot glass.
While you’re at Firefly, drop by the adjacent Irvin-House Vineyards, producer of several wines all made from sweet muscadine grapes. Free tours at 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
