Georgia Nicols horoscopes for May 5

Updated: May 19, 2013 9:31PM

ALL SIGNS MOON ALERT: Avoid shopping or making important decisions from 11 a.m. until 8:15 p.m. After that, the Moon moves from Pisces into Aries.

◆ARIES (March 21-April 19): Do everything in your power today to overcome obstacles in order to see ways you can earn money or get a better job or improve your wealth and assets. Why? Because this can be done. Look for your opportunity to do so.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20): You can improve your appearance and the image you create in the world today. You might do this by making a resolution to improve your health or you might buy new clothes or get a different hairstyle. Even a change of attitude. Whatever it is — you rock!

GEMINI (May 21-June 20): Research and work that is done behind the scenes will be meaningful and valuable. However, whatever you learn should benefit others as well as yourself. If it doesn’t, then all your time will be wasted.

CANCER (June 21-July 22): You’ll be powerful when working with others today, especially groups. Because people will follow your lead, you’ll have no trouble rallying your troops. Use the combined effort of everyone to benefit the whole, not just yourself. (That’s the trick.)

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): Your ambition is aroused, which is a good thing because despite obstacles earlier in the day, you can now move forward like a hot knife slicing through butter. Use your influence to benefit society or your own community. You will not regret this.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Make plans to travel or get further education or training to improve yourself. And while you’re doing this (incidentally, this could include exploring avenues in publishing and the media), if what you do benefits others as well as yourself, you will be the big winner.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): Now is the time to be decisive about how to deal with shared property, inheritances and anything that is jointly held. But do not put yourself first. Do not think of yourself alone. If you include others to make a fair decision, in the end, you’ll come out on top.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): This is a lively day dealing with others, which is why you will attract energetic people to you. Enjoy dynamic conversations. Don’t fall into one-upmanship or competition. Instead, harness the energy of others to work with you to make things better.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): You can either improve your job today or improve your health — or both. Introduce reforms into your life both at work and in your personal life. You might be surprised at how quick you’ll get results! It’s as if something magical is helping you.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): Frank discussions with others might improve romantic relationships. Similarly honest discussions might improve your relationship with children, especially your own kids. Just lay your cards on the table and be open to suggestions from others.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): Make serious plans to improve your home situation, perhaps in areas related to plumbing, bathrooms or garbage and recycling. It’s possible to do this today, and you will have the best results if what you do benefits others as well as yourself.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): Although you’re persuasive today, if you don’t make room for the input of others you will stand alone. And your headway will be minimal. But if you work in conjunction with others, taking into consideration what they say and respecting what they want, everyone wins!

If MAY 5 is Your Birthday: Food writer/TV cook James Beard (1903-1985) shares your birthday today. You genuinely want to educate and inform others. You like to offer advice, especially in practical ways. You believe in alerting others to important truths. Fortunately, you do this very well because you have a convincing manner and charm. In the year ahead, something you’ve been involved with for the last nine years will diminish or end to make room for something new.
