Hey, where are the crunches?
That may be your first reaction when trying out Bob Harper’s latest DVD, which is devoted to abs. Don’t worry, the “Biggest Loser” star will have your abs crying for mama before completing any of the three WODs (Workouts of the Day) here.
Harper fills his workouts with moves — planks, lunges, Russian twists, renegade rows — designed to strengthen your core. In each workout he has a minimum of moves — WOD 2 has but four — each of which you do for a minute and then repeat the rotation again. And again. Oh yeah, you’re working out. You might be surprised that an abs DVD can have you sweating so.
The nifty timer in the left corner shows how long you’re doing the different exercises. Your body will agree 30 seconds of pushups can be a killer. And a minute of burpees? Yeow!
We don’t get to work out much with Harper himself, but that’s OK. He uses the time onscreen to point out correct body positions on his team of three trainers and to point out how to kick up (or dial down) the intensity. Each trainer demonstrates the moves at different levels so the DVD is fine for all levels. Good, solid workouts here.
