What your favorite wine says about you

September 27, 2006

Alpana Singh has noticed how people's wine choices speak volumes about their personalities. She shares her observations on how, more often than you might think, "you are what you drink."

WHITES

•  If you like buttery, oaky Chardonnay: You're fun, buoyant and outgoing, and know what you like (and make no apologies for it).

•  In love with Riesling? You love complexity and tend to be the patient type who holds out for the best (like this white wine, whose grapes thrive in inhospitable, harsh climates).

ROSES / SPARKLING WINE

•  If you favor dry Rose from Provence or Tuscany: You're probably an adventurous hipster who likes challenging tastes.

•  Drinking sweet rose or White Zinfandel? You're possibly a homebody who's not too knowledgeable about wine.

•  Enjoy Champagne or sparkling wine? You're determined to enjoy life to the fullest -- even if you appear a bit manic at times.

REDS

•  Is Zinfandel your drink? You likely enjoy this high-alcohol red because you're unpretentious and extroverted.

•  Mad for Merlot? You're easygoing and tend to go with the flow.

•  A fan of Cabernet Sauvignon? The "Katharine Hepburn" or "George Clooney" of wines attracts sophisticates with natural, unforced elegance.
