For the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild’s “Metal, Beers & Burgers” series, Lakeview’s DryHop Brewers has created a delicious Imperial Red Ale that hop lovers must taste immediately. To accompany the beer (or is it the other way around?) renowned burger bar Kuma’s has created a special burger, and they will do this two more times over the next three months: a total of three special DryHop beers and three Kuma’s burgers, all named for heavy metal songs. The first beer, which is available now, is Reverse Thunder Imperial Red Ale. It clocks in at 8.3 percent alcohol, but you wouldn’t know it based on its smooth, malty introduction and pleasant bitter finish laced with Amarillo, Galaxy and Simcoe hops. It drinks like a beer with much less kick. The lesson here? Be careful and sip wisely. The Red Fang II burger at Kuma’s was invented specifically to match the beer, but the regular burger at DryHop pairs very nicely with it, too. Try a pint of Reverse Thunder Imperial Red Ale ($7) at Kuma’s Corner, 2900 W. Belmont Ave.; Kuma’s Too, 666 W. Diversey Pkwy.; or DryHop Brewers, 3155 N. Broadway. — Michael Austin
