The latest edition from Virtue Cider is The Mitten — named both for an essential winter clothing item, and for the cider’s home state of Michigan (which is shaped like a mitten, in case you haven’t noticed). This is the second year that Virtue has made The Mitten but the first time it is available in Chicago in bottles. It starts with a tangy fresh blast of bright apple and then segues into deeper flavors of wood, vanilla and a whisper of licorice imparted by its bourbon barrel-aging. Pair it with rich, hearty comfort foods. Stew and cider anyone? Pick up a 750-millileter bottle ($17.99) at Fischman Liquors & Tavern, 4780 N. Milwaukee. — Michael Austin
