Jamba Juice juicing up menu -- with food

August 20, 2009

A smoothie chain is juicing up its menu in Chicago.

Jamba Juice is launching a food menu, including flatbreads, wraps, salads and a turkey sandwich, at 18 Chicago locations this week. It starts selling at another six local stores next month.

Chicago is the first market outside Jamba's California home base to get the full line of grub. About 250 locations started carrying the menu in June. New York City locations began selling the flatbreads last month.

The launch includes lemonade green teas flavored with pear, pomegranate, passionfruit and mango juices.

The flatbreads, with choices of cheese, chicken or artichoke topping, cost $3.50 to $3.75 each. Wraps, which cost $5.50, come in chicken, vegetarian and vegan varieties.

Caesar and ginger soy salads cost $5.50 each.

The expanded food offerings -- touting a lack of trans fat and high fructose corn syrup -- follow last winter's debut of organic steel-cut oatmeal.
