Fourth of July Recipe requests for “decadent” chocolate cupcakes (from C.F. of Des Plaines) and oven-baked barbecued ribs (from K.D. of Gary) gives Swap Shop an opportunity to share gooey and crunchy Ghirardelli Rocky Road Cupcakes from Ghirardelli Chocolate and a mouth-watering recipe for Oven-Baked Barbecue Ribs from Cynthia Calvillo of Oak Lawn.

The cupcake recipe is a reminder that July 20 is the pre-registration deadline for the 2012 Ghirardelli Chocolate Championship, an annual recipe contest hosted at the DuPage County Fair in Wheaton. For more contest information, visit www.dupagecountyfair.org.

Calvillo’s rib recipe includes her version of a spice rub, though you can use your own favorite spices and favorite barbecue sauce (hers is K.C. Masterpiece) to customize your ribs. Her rub recipe also cautions about not using too much sugar because sugar tends to burn.

Requests

Please print a recipe for old-fashioned vinegar-and-sugar coleslaw (not the creamy version made with mayonnaise).

I would like a recipe for moist oatmeal raisin cookies. Mine always get too flat or are too dry.

Can someone help with a peach cobbler recipe?
