Blogger Rachel Macy Stafford (www.handsfreemama.com) shared some tips for parenting “hands free”:
• Create a barrier between you and your device. “Actually putting these items out of sight was a huge help for me,” she said.
• Take the apps off your phone. “A lot of my readers have shared with me they removed Facebook, Instagram, Words With Friends. They realized they were sitting there playing cars or whatever with their child and they’re on their phone.”
• Put your phone in the glove compartment when you drive. “Within days [the kids] began talking so much more,” Stafford said. “They realized mom was not on the phone. We started having these great conversations.”
• Turn off the notifications. “I did that at home and in the car. ... In the car it was huge not to have that summoning me.”
