Q. I’m trying to get my dog and my family’s two cats to get along. The last time they were in the same house, they had a peeing contest on the family living room rug when no one was looking.
When you visit, keep your dog under your control and in your field of vision. The cats own the family home. Your visiting dog doesn’t. He is the variable in this cats + dogs equation. No reason if Picnic is under your control, the family animals can’t get along and keep the carpet dry. You have to supervise.
Q. Lilly, is a 1 1/2 -year-old Labrador mix that I adopted about a year ago. She is super sweet but we keep having issues at the dog park. Lately whenever we go to the park and she sees her dog friends are already there, she ends up fighting with every other dog she meets. She only seems to get into fights when her friends are around. I’m not sure if she feels protective of them or jealous if they play with new dogs, but this behavior is really becoming a problem.
Lilly seems to work well in small groups with dogs she knows. Keep her close to the comforts of the familiar and reintroduce her slowly back to dogs she doesn’t know. Also, make sure she is spayed. This is mandatory not only in her ability to get along with other dogs but for Lilly’s overall health and welfare.
