Success must have been written in the stars for the Adler Planetarium’s 10th annual Celestial Ball on Sept. 8. More than 800 partygoers — including Jim Lovell, the commander of NASA’s Apollo 13 mission — filled the planetarium’s Café Galileo and the adjacent Sundial Terrace, which offered a sweeping view of the Chicago skyline. Attendants dressed as astronauts sold raffle tickets and encouraged guests to bid on auction items, including an adorable puppy named Luna. Co-chairmen Erika Bartelstein, Donna More, Laura Myntti and Meg Sauer were thrilled as the evening rocketed past the $1.2 million fund-raising target before the silent auction started, making it the most successful Celestial Ball ever.
