CAUSE & EVENT | ‘RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITY DAY
It was a golden day for Ronald McDonald Houses worldwide when the doors to the world’s largest House swung open on June 25. The supersized skyscraper at 211 E. Grand will house 86 families with children being treated at nearby hospitals, including Lurie’s Children’s Hospital. Business, media and social notables — such as McDonald’s CEO Jim Skinner, WLS-Channel 7’s Mark Giangreco and reality star Bill Rancic — were in attendance as Gov. Pat Quinn dubbed it “Ronald McDonald House Charity Day.”
“Every family in the time of their deepest fears needs another place to call home,” said MaryAnne Smith, who co-chaired the RMHC’s $30 million capital campaign with her husband, Bears coach Lovie Smith. After more than five years of fund-raising, the House is, “perfect, just perfect,” she said.
