All eyes were set toward the future at Christ the King high school’s June 22 cocktail benefit at the River East Arts Center. Honoring the achievement of the school’s graduating class, which had a 100 percent college acceptance rate, the evening doubled as a scholarship fundraiser so that inner-city students can attend the private Jesuit school. Donations, which helped bring the evening’s tally to $125,000, were spurred by an anonymous donor who promised a 10-time match for every dollar raised to support the tuition program. More than 400 guests danced to the beats of DJ Zeke Thomas, including the deejay’s dad, former Detroit Pistons “Bad Boy” Isiah Thomas, who has founded a Christ the King scholarship in honor of his mother. The Sun-Times was the media sponsor for this event.
