Chicago’s got a long list of greats — Bertha Palmer, Enrico Fermi, Joseph Medill — and each year, the Chicago History Museum adds several living legends to its ranks. This year’s Making History award winners included Walter Massey, Adele Simmons, Miles D. White (an investor in the Sun-Times’ parent company, Wrapports) and Walgreens (whose corporate award was accepted by CEO Gregory Wasson) along with one surprise honoree, the Sun-Times’ Roger Ebert. White called the crowd of about 300 guests “a target-rich environment of people who can’t say no [to fund-raising],” and he was right — the benefit, emceed by CNN anchor Ali Velshi, raised nearly $800,000.
The Sun-Times Foundation and the Chicago Community Trust will match donations to the Chicago History Museum up to $25,000 through Sept. 6. Donate at www.suntimes
