As a boy, Robert Dakessian loved visiting Chicago’s museums, especially the Egyptian mummy displays at The Field Museum.
While that didn’t translate into a career in anthropology, he didn’t hesitate when asked if his current venture — running a CT and MRI rental company — could assist the museum in unlocking some of the mummies’ ancient secrets.
“We were very excited to be part of this project,” Dakessian said Monday.
Dakessian is president and CEO of Genesis Medical Imaging, Inc. which lent the portable CT scan unit in a 53-foot truck trailer to the Field Museum. Museum officials contacted Genesis in January about using one of their units.
The scanners are mostly used by hospitals with a backlog of patients needing scans or in rural locations, said Randal Walker, Genesis’ vice president of sales.
This isn’t the first unusual request they’ve received — Walker said movie companies have contacted them about renting the scanners for filming.
