Two books — one fact, one fiction — tell equally intriguing tales about the tulip in 17th century Holland. In Tulipomania (Three Rivers Press, $13.95), author Mike Dash explores the history of this fascinating flower and how it led to many a Dutch family’s financial ruin. Tulip Fever (Bantam Dell, $14) by Deborah Moggach is a fictional page-turner of a love story about an artist, a woman and the flower that will seal their fate.
