Dog parents get ready: tomorrow marks Wicker Park’s annual Boo Palooza Costumed Dog Parade.
Whether spooky or sweet, clever or creative, pooches can strut their Halloween getups on the park’s dog runway for a chance to win woof-worthy treats and prizes (think gourmet shops like Doggy Style and Kriser’s). Last year’s winner was the Hipster Dog, decked out in the de rigeur Hipster cap, worn-in knits and baggy jeans (the only thing missing was a PBR), while other costumes ranged from ladybugs to unicorns to ballerinas.
The parade is free and open to all canines — city residents or not.
“No dog is too little or too big to be part of Boo Palooza,” says Elaine Coorens, member of the Wicker Park Advisory Council and editor/publisher of Our Urban Times, one of the event’s sponsors.
Coorens says the contest has become so popular, organizers had to move the central stage to the more spacious grassy area in the park just east of the fountain.
The Dog Parade kicks off at 12 p.m. Saturday at Wicker Park, located off Damen Avenue between Wicker Park Avenue and Schiller Street. However, due to popularity, furry contestants are encouraged to arrive by 11:30 a.m.
