Miami Heat star and Chicago native Dwyane Wade knows how to put on a show — both on and off the court. Last weekend, the South Sider, joined by fellow Heat legend Alonzo Mourning, returned to his old stomping grounds for his fifth annual Wade’s World Weekend, a three-day event that raises money and promotes literacy for inner-city kids. “We want to get in front of the problem [of illiteracy] and open the eyes of at-risk kids to a bigger world,” said Wade. The big event was held on Friday night, as guests bowled the night away at Lucky Strike (322 E. Illinois). To the delight of attendees, Wade mingled and stopped at each lane for photo ops with supporters. “Growing up in the inner-city myself, I always wanted to make an impact.” And that’s exactly what he did: The funds raised benefit By the Hand Club for Kids and other local Chicago charities. —Katerina Bizios
