Local beauty line Amazing Cosmetics had long been looking to team up with a charity organization. But when they met WNBA Chicago Sky player Ruth Riley and learned about her work with the United Nations Nothing but Nets initiative, they knew they’d found a slam-dunk partnership.
“As mothers, we couldn’t believe that a child in Africa dies every 60 seconds from malaria,” says Sandy Incardona, who founded the line 12 years ago with Sue Katz and Lisa Thurman. “It tugged at all of our heartstrings.”
To help fund the cause, Amazing Cosmetics is teaming up with Riley and the Chicago Sky for the Nothing But Nets Charity Game Day. Taking place at their Libertyville studio, the event aims to raise money for mosquito nets with a carnival-like party full of games, food, makeovers, a silent auction (with Chicago sports tickets and memorabilia) and appearances by Chicago Sky players. Perks such as a game of hoops with Riley, a coaching clinic and mini-makeovers and massages will be available for just $10 — the exact cost of one bed net.
Sunday, Aug. 12, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Studio, 133 E. Cook, Libertyville. Call 847-680-5247 for more information.
