What's in a name?

When the name is California Pizza Kitchen, you know to expect something innovative.

When CPK first arrived in the Chicago market its concept was as foreign to us Midwesterners as some of the ingredients the chain used in its gourmet pizzas. After all, if it didn't have two inches of crust, nearly a complete layer of meat and a plain red sauce, it wasn't pizza.

Gradually, Chicagoans warmed up to the idea of a thin-crust pizza, exotic ingredients and a variety of cheeses and sauces topping our pizza.

Now, CPK has introduced individual-style frozen pizzas.

The Sicilian-style pizza, which is loaded with Italian sausage, spicy ham, salami, low-fat mozzarella, Parmesan and Fontina cheeses and basil topped with a marinara sauce, is not your kid's pizza. The gourmet delight appeals to the adult palate and is enough to satisfy that pizza craving without making you feel as though you just binged.

Ready in less than five minutes, the thin crust cooks up crispy and is more like an over-sized cracker or wafer topped with premium ingredients than the typical doughy varieties.

CPK For One pizzas are available at Jewel, Target and other Chicago area grocery stores.
