I prefer brown or jasmine rice, but when I’m looking for a side dish with a bit more pizzazz for my family, I’ll prepare flavored rice.
Last week I picked up Riceland Rice ’N Easy Mix for the first time.
The Spanish-flavored rice delivered more than relief from a boring side dish.
The rust-colored rice is speckled with green and red peppers and seasoned with turmeric, garlic, onion, tomato and paprika. The plump, seasoned grains needed no enhancement — now that’s a good product.
You can prepare the rice either on the stovetop or in the microwave.
I opted for the stovetop method: Combine 2¼ cups of water and 1 tablespoon of margarine in a saucepan, then stir in rice and seasoning packet. Bring to a boil, simmer for 20 minutes and serve.
Riceland Rice products are available at most grocery stores.
