I had my back up against the wall when my son asked for red beans and rice for dinner. I had no beans, no seasonings, and worse, no time.
I remembered the Uncle Ben's rice I had brought home and thought now would be a good time to try the product.
I have to say the spicy blend -- which includes long grain rice, Cajun seasonings, red beans and red and green bell peppers -- was definitely a hit.
Although not from scratch, the rice blend was more than good enough to satisfy my son's craving.
The beans, small and firm, but not undercooked, were perfect. Uncle Ben knows how to do rice well and this dish is no exception. The savory blend had just enough spice to give it that Nawlin's flair without the heartburn. The beans and the rice combination earn a high grade. The combined ingredients don't overshadow one another, with the product bringing out the best of each.
The packaging also boast a new "cool touch" technology, where a portion of the top remains cool even after the 90-second heating.
The rice can be found in most grocery stores.
