Oprah's fan poses no danger in ratings

May 2, 2008

Even though Ellen DeGeneres is invading Oprah Winfrey's home turf this weekend, the longtime queen of talk -- often called the ''most powerful person in television'' -- has nothing to fear.

''Both nationally and in virtually all local markets, 'Oprah' beats 'Ellen' " in the ratings, said TV pundit Marc Berman of Mediaweek. "There's no comparison. Ellen may best her in one or two markets, but 'Oprah,' by far, continues to be the top-rated talk show.''

DeGeneres said Thursday that Oprah's is the one talk show she watches -- outside her own.

"I love her not just for her show, but as a human being," the comedian said. "What she has done on television is incredible. There is enough bad stuff out there -- especially on TV. The positive messages and images of hope that she sends out are truly inspirational.''
