In the midst of battling his grief over the tragic death of his daughter, Mitch Winehouse reportedly channeled long-held anger at his former son-in-law.
Amy Winehouse’s troubled ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, is serving a prison term in Britain for burglary. Mitch and wife Janis Winehouse, along with most of Amy’s closest friends and other family members, blame Fielder-Civil for much of the Grammy-winning singer’s dependence on drugs and alcohol. Plus, they’re outraged by reports he could inherit a chunk of Winehouse’s sizable estate.
“Blake was simply the worst enabler in the world, mainly because he’s an addict himself,” said a close Winehouse associate.
That source also confirmed that Mitch Winehouse personally asked that Fielder-Civil be denied his request for a furlough to attend Amy’s funeral Tuesday.
I understand that the prison warden had planned to deny that request even before the senior Winehouse made his plea.
“That was the only decent thing to do,” added my source. “It would have ruined the funeral for everyone there.”
BABY MYSTERY: Rumors flew that Rohan Marley had dumped longtime girlfriend Lauryn Hill while the five-time Grammy winner was pregnant with what was assumed to be their sixth child, but it now seems Marley may not be the baby’s daddy.
In a Twitter chat with a Houston Chronicle reporter, Marley seemed to confirm a denial he had fathered that little boy — born Tuesday — tweeting, “That is correct until I say out of my mouth to the contrary.”
Could that mean he was awaiting the results of a paternity test?
Neither Marley, son of reggae legend Bob Marley, nor Hill would confirm or deny that Marley was now romantically involved with Brazilian supermodel Isabeli Fontana, 28.
NO GIFTS, PLEASE! Victoria and David Beckham want to stop the constant flow of baby presents for new daughter Harper — from people they don’t know.
Most of the items, including 14 pricy strollers, have been sent by kiddie goods manufacturers, hoping for a Beckham endorsement, or even a paparazzi shot of the celebrity couple using their product in public.
To solve the problem, the Beckhams have instructed their staff to send the unsolicited gifts to a number of worthy children’s charities in the Los Angeles area.
SPLITSVILLE SAGA: According to those who know, one of the key reasons for the breakup of Jesse James and his much-tattooed fiancee Kat von D was the “L.A. Ink” star’s belief that James was still obsessed with ex-wife Sandra Bullock — even though the Oscar winner has made it very clear she is permanently done with him.
DANCING ON: “A Good Man,” the documentary Gordon Quinn and Bob Hercules directed about famed choreographer Bill T. Jones’ challenges in creating a dance-theater work for Ravinia Festival, has been accepted by several film festivals and will air as part of the PBS series “American Masters” on Nov. 11.
The movie is the brainchild of Ravinia’s CEO Welz Kauffman, who invited the filmmakers to capture the two-year process of Tony winner Jones creating the work celebrating the Abraham Lincoln bicentennial: “Fondly Do We Hope …Fervently Do We Pray.”
The film also will have a theatrical run at the Gene Siskel Film Center, Sept. 23-28.
GOOD IDEA: Kudos to Howard and David Bellamy, the country crooners known as the Bellamy Brothers, who will dedicate their Saturday concert in Lyngdal, Norway, to the memory of the victims of last Friday’s tragic massacre. The Bellamys have been performing in Norway since 1976, and David said, “The nightmare they encountered this past week is almost unimaginable. I think the closest thing we can relate it to is Sept. 11.”
MEDIA MOVE: Congrats to New Trier grad and Glencoe native Clay Gordon — just hired by the Fox and ABC duopoly in Bangor, Maine, where the 22-year-old Indiana University alum will co-anchor the stations’ morning newscasts, beginning Sept. 7.
SEEN ON THE SCENE: No doubt few — if any — fellow guests at the Chicago Mart Plaza hotel recognized one of the most influential guys on the Internet the other day, but that was Craigslist founder Craig Newmark spied walking through the lobby. … With the imminent launch of her OWN talk show, no doubt we’ll have a ton of Rosie O’Donnell sightings in the days and weeks to come — such as this one at Feast Gold Coast, where she posed for fans’ photos and even played with a cute baby!
