Even though Kelsey Grammer and ex-wife Camille are divorced — and the “Frasier” star has happily remarried new bride Kayte — the actor and his ex are embroiled in a very ugly custody battle over their children.
Hollywood pals of the ex-Mrs. Grammer say the former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” reality personality is amazed Kelsey blames her for messing with him legally.
Reportedly, the actor believes his bitter former spouse is trying to upset him as he tries to concentrate on his new “Boss” series — currently filming here in Chicago.
From the Left Coast comes word that Camille finds this all bizarre, given Grammer is the one who filed for sole custody of daughter Mason, 9, and son Jude, 6.
Camp Kelsey tells me that the reason for the actor’s actions is that he is skeptical of Camille’s claims she is such a devoted, full-time mom these days.
“From Kelsey’s point of view, Camille’s understanding of a 50-50 custody arrangement means he would have the kids half the time, and the other 50 percent would be spent with the nannies Camille would hire,” said a close Kelsey chum — clearly no fan of Camille’s — who also is skeptical of her interest in playing full-time mother.
† On a lighter note, Kelsey Grammer clearly doesn’t pawn off his dogwalking responsibilities, even in lousy weather. Despite a horrible weekend downpour, the actor was seen walking his dog —or, more accurately, being walked by his pooch — near the Four Seasons Hotel at Delaware and Michigan.
CAN YOU BLAME HER? I’m hearing that Maria Shriver, who certainly felt the love from the ovation she received from the “Oprah” crowd at the United Center on Tuesday — was understandably “disgusted” by the knowledge husband Arnold Schwarzenegger had impregnated the couple’s housekeeper Patty Baena in their own home, and possibly the couple’s own bed. Unbelievable.
FILM FLAM: Sounds like Natalie Portman and the “Black Swan” filmmakers are getting the last laugh over that “how-much-did-she-really-dance” controversy about the Oscar-winning film.
“Black Swan,” which just opened in Japan, now has made more than $300 million internationally at the box office. Not bad for a movie made for $12 million and initially considered a “niche film” that many thought would appeal only to a relatively small audience of ballet lovers.
† The Drake Hotel will host a “Film & Fondue” party from 6 to 9 p.m. May 29, featuring a yummy fondue reception followed by a screening of “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” starring Julia Roberts, Dermot Mulroney, Cameron Diaz and Rupert Everett. The love story includes a lot of scenes shot at the hotel in 1996.
LOOKING GOOD: Paula Abdul apparently has been obsessed with how she will look on “The X Factor.” That includes undergoing a rigid new fitness regime and following a totally macro-biotic (Gwyneth Paltrow-esque) diet — plus undergoing Titan laser treatments on her arms to make them look more toned. After all, Abdul loves wearing sleeveless dresses.
TV TALK: Chicago banker and inventor LeNardo Nelson, branch manager for UrbanPartnership Bank’s upcoming Loop location, will appear on “20/20” Friday night (9 p.m., WLS-Channel 7) as part of a story about infomercials. Nelson won the 2011 Telebrands contest thanks to his invention of the sustainable “TriTrak” windshield wiper, made from recycled materials.
NEAR DEATH? The long sad, downward slide for the once vibrant Zsa Zsa Gabor may finally be coming to an end. The 94-year-old, much-married celebrity has slipped into a coma at a Los Angeles hospital, according to a statement made to TMZ by her husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt.
She was rushed to the hospital at 2 a.m. Wednesday and has undergone emergency surgery to stop a major infection in her stomach, caused by a feeding tube.
SEEN ON THE SCENE: Ex-“Studs” star and Downers Grove native Mark DeCarlo, a contributor to the upcoming “Windy City LIVE” post-“Oprah” chatfest, was spied dining with pals at Harry Caray’s on Kinzie Tuesday. . . . Yes, that was Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich dining quietly with his girlfriend, actress Connie Nielsen, at John Ward’s Bistronomic.
