Enrique Iglesias declines opening-act slot on Britney Spears tour

Updated: August 4, 2011 4:20PM

Ego is always an issue in showbiz, and it was Enrique Iglesias’sense of self-importance that led the singer to nix plans to tour with Britney Spears.

A source close to both stars tells me this was another case “where too many lawyers got involved and muddied the waters” in the negotiations.

Iglesias backed out when he realized he just would be Spears’ opening act — believing his career is far beyond playing that role.

Spears, however, reportedly was surprised by the Iglesias team’s decision, thinking she could give his already-established career an even “bigger boost,” added the source.

† Meanwhile, Spears reportedly rolled her eyes upon hearing ex-hubby Kevin Federline’s girlfriend Victoria Prince is pregnant — and has made it clear she will not be supporting K-Fed’s fifth child. Along with the two kids Spears and Federline share, the pop superstar also reportedly helps support the two children he fathered with Shar Jackson.

ROMANTIC RUMBLINGS: Courteney Cox’s team continues to firmly insist her relationship with Josh Hopkins is completely “platonic” — even as the “Cougar Town” co-stars vacationed together in St. Barth’s. Unlike a recent Hawaiian trip, this was not work-related, but BZ spies in St. Barth’s claim the duo looked like a lot more than simply “good friends,” as Cox’s rep states.

Reportedly, the former “Friends” star is torn as she debates staying married to estranged husband David Arquette — or pursuing what some observers believe is a potentially serious relationship with Hopkins.

† Friends of Lindsay Lohan are concerned the long-troubled actress’ jealousy of on-again-off-again galpal Samantha Ronson’s new fling with yoga instructor Tiffany Russo could threaten her sobriety.

MORE MUSIC: Due to popular demand, a second Jennifer Hudson concert has been added to the Chicago native’s Ravinia Festival debut this summer. The Grammy and Oscar winner now will perform at 7:30 p.m. July 17. Tickets to this and all Ravinia shows go on sale April 27.

STAR POWER: Burt Reynolds hits town in mid-April for a virtual “film festival” of the veteran actor’s more popular flicks. The actor will greet fans at Hollywood Blvd. and Hollywood Palms Cinemas in Woodridge and Naperville April 15-17 for special screenings of “Smokey and the Bandit,” “Cannonball Run,” “Deliverance” and “The Longest Yard.” For details, go to atriptothemovies.com.

† Chicago actor and rapper Common will honor Maya Angelou, Keke Palmer, Sherri Shepherd and business leader Dee Robinson Reid at his Common Ground Foundation’s big gala April 16 at the InterContinental Hotel. The event also will raise funds for the foundation’s ongoing programs.

ROYAL ROMP: For those wanting to celebrate Prince William’s marriage to Kate Middleton — but don’t relish watching it in “real time” (starting at 5 a.m. Chicago time, April 29) — check out the party at the Lobby Lounge at ShowPlace Icon Theatre, 150 W. Roosevelt, beginning at noon. Guests will be able to watch the taped ceremony on five 50-inch HD screens, located throughout the lounge.

FASHION FLASH: Heads understandably were swiveling when Victoria’s Secret supermodel Lindsay Ellingson sashayed through the Wit Hotel and its Cibo Matto restaurant, while in town for a VS event at the lingerie retailer’s Boul Mich boutique.

FOTO FLASH: Veteran Chicago photographer Jennifer Girard, a fixture at Chicago’s social and charity events, has produced some amazing work about something far more serious — the ongoing tragic situation in Haiti.

An exhibit of Girard’s photos will be held at 5 p.m. Friday at the DePaul University Center, 1 E. Jackson — a fund-raiser for Haitian entrepreneurs.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Kudos to Chicago’s own Stephenie Park — one of the handful of remaining contestants on “America’s Next Great Restaurant” competition (7 p.m. Sunday). Park — whose concept is an eatery named Compleat, featuring fixed-calorie healthy fast-food offerings — clearly connected with judge and Chipotle founder Steve Ells.

“Steve did fast casual long before it became cool, so I thought that he had the most insightful coments on what is necessary for a restaurant’s success and what consumers will demand,” says Park.
