Elton John and his spouse, David Furnish, have very distinct facial characteristics, so it’s likely when their new son Zachary is a bit older, we will discover which man is the actual biological father of the little boy.
However, according to a gay Hollywood publicist who used the Center for Surrogate Parenting in Encino, Calif. — as did Sir Elton and Furnish — it’s possible the pop superstar and his husband themselves don’t yet know.
“We both contributed sperm for our surrogate,” said the source, who requested anonymity for personal, family reasons. “Now that our daughter is 5, it’s very clear which one of us is the biological father,” he said with a laugh.
“I’m of Swedish-Irish descent, and my partner is Filipino. Given our daughter looks like she’s straight from Manila, there’s no question whose sperm fertilized that surrogate’s egg!”
† When Sir Elton was in Chicago for the local opening of his “Billy Elliot” musical — shortly after he and Furnish were refused their attempt to adopt a Ukrainian child (officially due to John being considered too old — he told me “becoming a father is something I want so badly, and so does David. We will make it happen one way or another!”
† Already godparents to the children of Elizabeth Hurley, Sean Lennon and Victoria and David Beckham, Sir Elton and Furnish had long loved the name Zachary. They had been given a kids’ names book by a friend, the musician told UsMagazine.com, but “we have always loved the name Zachary and kept coming back to it. In the end, we looked at each other, put the book back on the shelf, and said, ‘This is it!’ ”
† Due to a number of anti-gay comments — some sounding a bit threatening — John reportedly has beefed up his security detail to ensure his baby son’s safety.
LOHAN LOOSE: Once Lindsay Lohan is released from the Betty Ford Center next week, she supposedly will be moved to new, “secret” living arrangements somewhere in Southern California.
However, a veteran staffer at the Ford rehab facility says there are serious concerns about the extent of Dina Lohan’s involvement in her daughter’s life at this point.
“Yes, she’s Lindsay’s mother and obviously loves her, but many of us believe that Dina has been an enabling factor in her life and has contributed to Lindsay’s past lifestyle choices that have led her down that road to addiction.”
According to the source, Lindsay Lohan will need to maintain “constant contact” with the two sponsors she has lined up to help her maintain her sobriety going forward.
LOVE & ROMANCE: Though Zac Efron and Rumer Willis’ camps insist the two are “just friends,” spies at exclusive Parrot Island — down in the Turks & Caicos — claim the two are looking extremely cozy while vacationing at Rumer’s dad, Bruce Willis’, Caribbean getaway, along with most of the Willis clan.
† Despite constant tabloid and online rumblings about trouble in the Katie Holmes-Tom Cruise marriage, I’m hearing just the opposite. Holmes has told at least one friend she and Cruise are planning to have another child to give daughter Suri a sibling closer to her age. While she does have half brother and half sister Conor and Isabella, “they are much older and dote on Suri so much. … Tom and Katie — who also love to spoil her — know a little brother or sister will help balance out that spoiling.”
TV TALK: Our own Roger Ebert and his new film review show, “Ebert Presents At the Movies” will be showcased on CBS News’ “Sunday Morning” at 8 a.m. Sunday on WBBM-Channel 2.
Roger’s long-anticipated program, airing on public television stations nationwide, debuts here at 8:30 p.m. Jan. 21 on WTTW-Channel 11 — with repeat broadcasts on Saturday mornings at 11.
SAD NEWS: Condolences to the family of prominent Chicago business leader and philanthropist Gene McCaffery. Following a 5 p.m. Monday funeral mass at Old St. Pat’s Church, the life of the former top Montgomery Ward executive and Gibsons Restaurant Group chairman will be celebrated by his legion of pals at Gibsons.
SEEN ON THE SCENE: The Bulls’ John Lucas III was spied at the James Hotel’s JBar — toasting a cousin’s birthday — while Lucas’ coach Tom Thibodeau dined at Gibsons on Rush, where (separately) Bulls player Kyle Korver and new papa Vince Vaughn also got their steak fix this week.
