No celebrity couple has had more scrutiny in recent years than “Twilight” co-stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. After reuniting following Stewart’s brief fling last year with her “Snow White & The Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders, it now appears the couple have split for good.
A solid Pattinson pal reported Monday, “ They both still love each other, but I think Robert in particular has decided it’s time to move on.”
It does not appear any third party is responsible for Pattinson moving out of Stewart’s Los Angeles home over the weekend. He reportedly reclaimed his two dogs, a move my source finds “very symbolic. … Even when they went through that big breakup over the Sanders thing, those dogs always stayed at Kristen’s. … Now they’re out of there.
“I know that sounds a little silly, but it’s not. Those dogs mean everything to Rob.”
WHITE SUIT TIME? Justin Bieber has previously indicated a strong desire to remake John Travolta’s iconic “Saturday Night Fever” classic — obviously in a much more contemporary way. Now there’s word the pop idol is talking to producers about the project, a film that would use current music and themes that would connect with today’s young audiences.
In other words, a movie that would appeal to Justin’s legion of avid “Beliebers.”
CASTING CAPERS: Remember the charismatic Chilean miner who came to be known as “Super Mario” after being trapped underground with 32 fellow minors for 69 days back in 2010? Antonio Banderas will portray the feisty fellow, Mario Sepulveda, in “The 33.”
Sepulveda told the Associated Press he’s “thrilled” the famous Spanish actor will play him in the movie, co-starring Martin Sheen and Rodrigo Santoro.
† Veteran character actress Davenia McFadden, a 1978 graduate of Joliet West High School, had a nice showcase Sunday night, skillfully portraying a con artist/thief who slipped into Don Draper’s Manhattan home on “Mad Men.” Among the long list of McFadden’s TV credits are roles on “Seinfeld,” “Ally McBeal,” “Becker,” “The American Embassy,” “Glee,” “Mike & Molly,” and “The Young and The Restless.”
† Considering “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” was a such a big international hit — grossing more than $213 million worldwide — it’s no surprise that “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon II — The Green Destiny” is in the works.Filming is set to begin in Asia next March, with
Michelle Yeoh reprising her role as Yu Shu Lien.
Taylor Momsen , then Kelly Osbourne and Georgia May Jagger. Now British singer Rita Ora will increase her visibility on this side of the Atlantic with her new role as the public image for the clothing line.
Zane is happy the bill passed the committee with a 14-0 bipartisan vote. Now it’s on to a vote in the full Senate, then the House and finally Gov. Pat Quinn’s desk.
NICE TO NOTE: As one who reports on a world where many marriages last less than 58 weeks — or even 58 days — I’m delighted to toast veteran Chicago publicist and broadcaster Ed McElroy and his beloved wife Rita, who recently celebrated their anniversary: 58 years of wedded bliss. Congrats!
BIRTHDAY BIT: Chicago restaurateur RJ Melman will add another candle to his birthday cake Tuesday — topping things off by celebrating at his Sub 51 nightspot. None other than Grammy-winning songwriter and producer Jermaine Dupri steps in as guest DJ at Sub 51’s SUBstance Tuesday fete, featuring the best of throwback beats, beginning at 10:30 p.m.
A FUN FETE: James Bond himself would have felt right at home at the Greater North Michigan Avenue Association’s annual celebration Friday at the Hyatt Regency. Titled “Shaken …Not Stirred,” the party drew more than 900 of the city’s top business and political leaders. The gala also featured a pre-dinner gaming party of craps and blackjack, thanks to Rivers Casino. It was just for fun — no money involved in the still casino-less Chicago!
Among those spied at the party were GNMAA chair Mary Ann Rose; her husband, Heinz Kern; Lee and Sandy Golub; Maria Zec; Dutchie Caray; Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy; state Sen. Kwame and Kali Raoul; Holly Agra; Ald. Bob Fioretti, and Joanna and Grant DePorter.
SEEN ON THE SCENE: Actor and funnyman Martin Short and (separately) the Grammy-nominated rockers Relient K were spotted dining at Giordano’s on Rush Street … While Louie Anderson was in the area for his gig at the Chicago Improv at Woodfield, the comic slipped into the Weber Grill in Schaumburg — lunching on the eatery’s beer-can chicken. … Board Room was where Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer were spotted the other night. … … Yes, that was the Bears’ Tim Jennings at Joe’s Stone Crab. Ditto for Mets relief pitcher LaTroy Hawkins, his teammate Brandon Lyon, Food Network star Anne Burrell and veteran supermodel Beverly Johnson, in town for the Starlight Children’s Foundation benefit. … Recent sightings at Harry Caray’s on Kinzie have included Cubs catcher Welington Castillo, Carlos Villanueva and the Red Wings’ coach Mike Babcock. … Ald. Bob Fioretti (2nd) held a meet-and-greet with constituents at O’Brien’s in Old Town.
