It’s probably not surprising that in the wake of the rave reviews Amy Poehler and Tina Fey received for hosting the Golden Globes, key members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association — and many major film industry honchos — are hoping the former “Saturday Night Live” partners will repeat next year.
Of course, it’s way to early to know if that dynamic duo would want to do it again — or even if their schedules would permit it — but the early buzz is very pro-Poehler-Fey.That said, if the HFPA would have to look elsewhere for a host, there’s a rumbling of support for
Sacha Baron Cohen, with many thinking his very funny presenting stint at Sunday’s ceremony showcased something of a return to the kind of host Ricky Gervais played on the three previous Globes shows.
“He’s edgy, he’s very funny and he’s a Brit. Seems perfect for the Hollywood Foreign Press,” said a big Cohen fan who worked with him on his “The Dictator” flick last year. “I hope they get Tina and Amy back, but Sacha wouldn’t be a bad substitute.” Bigelow reportedly has a good relationship with her ex-husband — whom she beat for the best director Oscar when “The Hurt Locker” beat his “Avatar” She told a Globes show pal, “That was one of the best lines of the night!”
† While Mel Gibson’s main reason for attending the Globes Sunday was to support his close friend and former co-star Jodie Foster as she received the Cecil B. DeMille career achievement award, it also was the first time the Oscar winner had been seen by a number of major Hollywood players since his various public comments — especially those considered anti-Semitic — made him persona non grata with many.
While Gibson was warmly greeted by a number of stars and filmmakers, including his table-mate Robert Downey Jr., Richard Gere and Sally Field, there were a lot of people who, as one observer put it, “ran the other way when they saw Mel coming their way.”
“Hey, Ben and Jen have been happily married for seven years and have three kids. … J. Lo has both been married, divorced and has kids of her own — and seems to be happy in her current relationship. … These are very smart adults who have moved on with their lives and bear no grudges about that chapter in their lives,” said a longtime Affleck insider, who noted J. Lo also was seen cheerfully confabbing with ex-boyfriend Sean “Diddy” Combs, as Smart smiled next to her.
The film is about a teen girl whose older brother mysteriously disappears in a rock quarry, leading three moonshiners to offer to bring her dead brother back to life in exchange for taking another life — a moral dilemma that leads to the revelation of the dark details of the girl’s family’s history.
