Now that Katie Holmes is history for Tom Cruise, there’s a lot of buzz in Hollywood on who will be the next Mrs. Cruise — or at least the next woman in his life.
Despite all those rumors questioning his sexual preferences, Cruise has always had a woman in his life — and it’s expected that will not change. Given what happened with the whole Scientology thing with his third wife, you can bet he will make sure his next love is truly committed to the church — given it is such an important facet of his life.
† While there have been rumors Cruise already has “great chemistry” with Ukrainian native Olga Kurylenko (“Magic City,” “Quantum of Solace”), his on-screen love interest in “Oblivion,” the sci-fi thriller he’s currently filming — there’s nothing going on. I have confirmed that she is definitely dating her “Magic City” co-star Danny Huston — and has been for a while.
† As for Holmes, a source very close to the actress said Wednesday, “Don’t hold your breath waiting for Katie to begin dating. Between settling all the issues in her personal life, focusing on Suri’s care, plus preparing to shoot two or three new films, I’d say dating is not exactly at the top of her ‘To Do’ list these days.”
WILL IT LAST? Sorry, but that is the question a number of people close to Sofia Vergara are asking about the “Modern Family” star’s surprise engagement to millionaire Nick Loeb, while the couple also celebrated Vergara’s 40th birthday in Mexico with friends, family and even a few “Modern Family” castmates. The concern? Vergara and Loeb’s two-year relationship has been pretty turbulent — with terrific highs and some fairly angry tiffs. Yet, after a two-month break this spring, they did reconnect and now seem very blissful. “I just hope it lasts this time,” said a source who should know Wednesday.
HEADED HERE: Oscar nominee Anna Kendrick (“Up In The Air”) hits town at the end of this month to begin filming “Drinking Buddies” a new indie film, being shot in Our Town. The independent movie will be directed by Joe Swanberg, a Southern Illinois University alum, who once worked for the Chicago International Film Festival.
† Fans of “Days of Our Lives” stars Susan Hayes (“Julie Williams”) and her real life husband and Harvey native Bill Hayes (“Doug Williams”) will want to know the couple will be at Anderson’s Bookshop in Naperville, 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 31 to sign copies of their new book, Trumpet.
JUST GO AWAY: Here’s even more proof (as if we needed it!) that America is disgusted by Rielle Hunter. Despite that huge media push for her book about her relationship with John Edwards, it’s only sold 6,000 copies — making sources of mine at major New York publishing houses very happy they passed on it. While her publicist denies rumors a planned national book tour for Hunter has been canceled — the rep told the New York Post there are currently no further media events on her schedule. Publishing types compare the Hunter book to that I Did It O.J. Simpson book project, or any possible book that Casey Anthony would publish. “There are just some people who are so despised by the public that they could not successfully sell a book. People just get revolted by the idea they could make money out of what is perceived as a self-created tragedy,” a major New York book agent said Tuesday night.
BARING ALL: Using her royal “connections” (and I’m using the word “connections” quite loosely!), Katrina Darling, the burlesque dancer who is a distant cousin of the former Kate Middleton, is going to be the September cover girl for Playboy. I’m sure Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and the entire royal family will be thrilled.
FREE FOOD & DRINKS! The local celebration of Cooking Channel’s second anniversary takes place 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Oak Street Beach Food + Drink, 1001 N. Lake Shore — with the network’s personalities G. Garvin and Baron Ambrosia on hand to dish out complimentary summer goodies.
ARTFUL ACTION: Renaissance man and raconteur Tom O’Gorman — artist, author, expert on all things Irish, and longtime aide to Ald. Ed Burke — exhibits his paintings Monday night at Kiki’s Bistro, 900 N. Franklin. O’Gorman is calling the focus of his latest works, “the curious composition of Irish ‘tenements’ — faces and country houses.” Sounds intriguing!
PREGNANT PAUSE: Mama-to-be Kristin Cavallari obviously had a craving for sushi as she and main man Jay Cutler popped into Ra Sushi on the Gold Coast Wednesday afternoon to pick up takeout.
