Five Chicago area theaters — the 16th Street Theater of Berwyn, along with The New Colony, Theatre Seven of Chicago, Theater Wit and Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre — have been selected as finalists for the 2011 Broadway In Chicago Emerging Theater Award. Now in its fifth year, this program, operated in conjunction with the League of Chicago Theatres, provides the winning company with $5,000, consultation with Broadway In Chicago staff members, and a marketing package that includes advertising support.
The winner of the award, which was created in 2007 “to encourage, support and promote young theaters in Chicago that have demonstrated great ability and promise, artistic excellence and fiscal responsibility in business practices,” will be announced in April, and will be honored at the League of Chicago Theatres’ annual gala slated for May 16 at the JW Marriott Hotel, 151 W. Adams.
Tickets, $300, will benefit the League of Chicago Theatres which promotes, supports and advocates for theater in Chicago. For additional information call (312) 554-9800 or visit www.chicagoplays.com.
