Mercury Theater plans musicals series

The Mercury Theater, the intimate venue at 3745 N. Southport that is under the executive direction of Walter Stearns, is initiating a four-show musical theater subscription series for the 2013 season.

It will include: “A Grand Night for Singing” (beginning in January), a celebration of the songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein; “Barnum” (in March), the rarely revived Cy Coleman musical about circus maestro P.T.Barnum; “The Color Purple” (in August), the regional premiere of the show inspired by Alice Walker’s novel; and “The Christmas Schooner” (in Dec.), the Chicago holiday classic.
