Jeff Garlin, a star of HBO’s hit comedy, “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and a Second City alum, is returning to the 299-seat Steppenwolf Theatre Upstairs in his show, “Closer Than I Appear,” running Dec. 4-16.
The comedian, who enjoyed great success with his 2011 appearance at Steppenwolf in “No Sugar Tonight,” promises he will be “up there doing his thing” onstage for at least 75 minutes, with plenty of free-form changes from night to night.
The executive producer of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” as well as a director and performer on the show, Garlin was raised in Chicago and South Florida, studied filmmaking, and began performing stand-up comedy while at the University of Miami. He has toured the country as a stand-up comedian, and has written and starred in previous solo shows, including “I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With” and “Uncomplicated and Concentrated.” In 2007, Garlin adapted “I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With” into an independent film. His book, “Curbing It” (Simon & Schuster), chronicles his efforts to reduce both his waistline and his carbon footprint.
Currently, Garlin has a local show based in Los Angeles at Largo called “By the Way — Conversations With (soon to be released).” And this past summer he directed his second feature film, “dealin’ with idiots,’ which he wrote and stars in. It is set for release in spring 2013.
