The Chicago Park District’s Theater on the Lake, which remounts eight well-received productions by Off Loop troupes throughout the summer months at its tattered but enduring home at Fullerton and Lake Michigan, has announced its dual co-artistic curators for 2013 season — its 61st season of operation.
They are actress-director Halena Kays, artistic director of The Hypocrites (and a co-founder and former artistic director of Barrel of Monkeys), and Joanie Schultz, the freelance theater and opera director who has worked at many Chicago companies, and whose upcoming productions include “The Whale” at Victory Gardens and “Luther” at Steep Theatre, where she is an artistic associate.
Kays and Schultz are assuming the rotating curatororship position, instituted last season, from Michael Patrick Thornton, artistic director and co-founder of The Gift Theatre Company and actor on ABC’s “Private Practice,” and Meghan Beals McCarthy, associate artistic director at Chicago Dramatists.
Chicago theater fans are also invited to be a part of the process by giving the new curators suggestions through the Chicago Park District’s Facebook page. Theater on the Lake’s schedule will be announced in spring 2013.
