Carrie Kaufman, for many years the publisher and editor of Performink, the Chicago area theater newspaper, has been named general manager of Chicago’s Porchlight Music Theatre. She joins artistic director Michael Weber, who already has made impressive gains in the overall quality of the company’s productions during his brief tenure, as demonstrated by such shows as “Putting It Together,” “A Catered Affair,” “tick, tick...BOOM!,” and the outstanding Chicago debut of “A Class Act,” currently running through Oct. 7.
Kaufman has been a chronicler and supporter of Chicago for more than two decades, and has a great deal of knowledge of non-profit management and has proven experience building a business from scratch. She also has won awards for her writing, though, as her biography notes, she is “incredibly proud of her geeky adherence to the creation of systems that allow businesses to run seamlessly so that creativity can flow.”
Coming up at Porchlight, whose home is at theater Wit, 1229 W. Belmont, will be “The Gifts of the Magi,” “Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill” and “Pal Joey.” For more information visit www.porchlightmusictheatre.org.
