Chicago Dancing Festival set to release tickets

And the race is almost on. Beginning July 17, free tickets for the indoor performances of this summer’s Chicago Dancing Festival will be released on a rolling basis.

Here is how it will work:

July 17, beginning at noon: Free tickets (limit of two per order) for the 7 p.m. performance on Aug. 20 at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, 205 E. Randolph, will be available in person at the Harris Theatre box office or by calling (312) 334-7777. This “Chicago Dancing” program will feature Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, the Joffrey Ballet, Giordano Dance Chicago, an After School Matters segment and “Bolero Chicago,” an event involving choreographer Larry Keigwin’s company and members of the community.

July 18, beginning at noon: Free tickets (limit two per order) for the 7:30 p.m. performance on Aug. 20 at the Auditorium Theatre, 50 E. Congress, will be available in person at the Auditorium box office, online at www.ticketmaster.com (not at outlets), or by calling (800) 982-ARTS. This “Dancing East & West of Chicago” program will feature performances by the Pacific Northwest Ballet, Ballet Arizona, stars of the San Francisco Ballet, the Martha Graham Dance Company and the Brian Brooks Moving Company.

July 19, beginning at noon: Free tickets (limit two per order) for the Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. lecture-demonstration, “Chicago Now,” at the Museum of Contemporary Art Theatre, 220 E. Chicago, will be available at the MCA box office or by calling (312) 397-4010. The program will feature a discussion of the state of the art of dance in Chicago now, with the participation of three local companies.

NOTE: Seating at all venues is general admission. Unclaimed tickets will be released 15 minutes prior to curtain time. No tickets are required for the “Dancing MoviesDay” (Aug. 21, beginning at noon), a series of screenings of dance films at the MCA Theatre, 220 E. Chicago; or for the “Dancing Under the Stars” program at Grant Park’s Spirit of Music Garden (Aug. 23, beginning with polka lessons at 6 p.m.), or for “The Celebration of Dance 2012,” the grand finale beginning at 7:30 at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. That big wrap-up performance will feature stars of the New York City Ballet and the San Francisco Ballet, the Martha Graham Dance Company, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Keigwin’s “Bolero” and the After School Matters troupe.
