Chicago Dancing Festival announces program
The second Chicago Dancing Festival has announced its complete lineup for the two free programs to be presented Aug. 18 and 20 -- a Chicago Dancing Festival production in association with the Museum of Contemporary Art and the City of Chicago-Millennium Park.
The "20th Century Masters" program slated for 7:30 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, 205 E. Randolph, will include works by these five choreographers:
• George Balanchine: The pas de deux "Rubies," from "Jewels," to music by Igor Stravinsky, danced by Yuka Iino and Ronnie Underwood of Oregon Ballet Theatre; and "Tzigane, to music by Maurice Ravel, danced by members of the Suzanne Farrell Ballet, which is making its Chicago debut.
• Jose Limon: "The Moor's Pavane: Variations on a Theme of Othello," to the music of Henry Purcell, performed by members of the Limon Dance Company.
• Martha Graham: "Cave of the Heart," to the music of Samuel Baber, danced by members of the Martha Graham Dance Company.
• Paul Taylor: "Cloven Kingdom," to music of Corelli and Henry Cowell and Malloy Miller, dance by the Joffrey Ballet.
• Lar Lubovitch: "Concerto Six Twenty-Two," a work set to Mozart, in its Chicago premiere, performed by the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company.
Note: The Harris Theater program is almost fully booked, with reservations gone almost as soon as the event was announced. But a standby policy will be put into effect later this week, with details at www.chicagodancingfestival.com.

The "Celebration of American Dance" program, set for 7:30 p.m. Aug. 20 in the Jay Pritzker Pavilion of Millennium Park, can accommodate all comers. It will include:
• American Ballet Theater soloists Yuriko Kajiya and Jared Matthews in the Black Swan pas de deux from "Swan Lake."
• Ballet Tech Kids Dance in its Chicago debut, performing Eliot Feld's "A Stair Dance," set to music by Steve Reich.
• Battleworks Dance Company in Robert Battle's "Takdeme," set to Sheila Chandra's "Speaking in Tongues," performed by Kanji Segawa.
• Evidence Dance Company in Ronald K. Brown's "Upside Down," from the full-length work "Destiny," set to the music of Oumou Sangare and Fela Kuti.
• The Joffrey Ballet in Laura Dean's "Sometimes It Snows in April," from the full-length "Billboards," set to music by Prince.
• Hubbard Street Dance Chicago in "Passo Mezzo," a duet by Ohad Naharin, set to an arrangement of "Greensleeves," and performed by Robin Mineko Williams and Terence Marling.
• Lar Lubovitch Dance Company in Lubovitch's "Jangle," set to the music of Bela Bartok.
• Muntu Dance Theatre of Chicago in "Djembe Drum Talk/Drum Song," with excerpts from "Initiates of Bagatae," choreographed by Moustapha Bangoura.
Note: A free modern dance lecture-demonstration is slated for 6 p.m. Aug. 19 at the Museum of Contemporary Art, 220 E. Chicago.
